Alicyclic Modified Siloxane——Permanent Slip, Non-Migratory, Toughening & Crack-Resistant Functional Solution for UV Cationic Topcoat Systems ChangFu BEX24

UV cationic topcoat applications often suffer from insufficient surface slip, poor leveling, additive migration and bleeding, and low toughness of cured films, which directly compromise coating appearance and long-term protective performance. Conventional silicone slip and leveling agents cannot fully participate in curing crosslinking. They tend to migrate and bleed out during service, impairing coating weather resistance and interlayer adhesion, which presents a major challenge for high-end topcoat formulation.

ChangFu® BEX24 is an alicyclic modified siloxane featuring a flexible siloxane backbone with reactive alicyclic epoxy groups. It is compatible with a wide range of cationic UV photoinitiator systems (e.g., sulfonium salts). Acting as an epoxy modifier and key slip/leveling additive with low surface tension, its reactive groups participate in resin crosslinking during curing. This delivers long-lasting slip performance without migration, while endowing coatings with excellent flexibility and weather resistance, making it an essential functional additive for premium topcoat formulations.

Product Features

  •       Reactive Active Structure

Alicyclic epoxy groups undergo cationic UV crosslinking under cationic photoinitiator systems to deliver durable slip feel, fundamentally eliminating additive migration and bleeding.

  •  Low Surface Tension & High-Efficiency Leveling

Siloxane segments provide outstanding surface control, improve the leveling performance of topcoat during application, and effectively eliminate common surface defects such as craters and pinholes.

  • High Flexibility with Internal Plasticization and Toughening

The flexible siloxane backbone offers internal plasticization, reduces internal stress generated during curing, improves film impact resistance and lowers the risk of coating cracking.

  • Excellent Weather Resistance and Chemical Stability

The combined siloxane and alicyclic epoxy structure works synergistically to endow finished coatings with good weatherability and chemical stability, resisting yellowing and gloss loss under long-term outdoor exposure.

Applications

  •       UV Cationic Clear Topcoat (Varnish)

Compatible with cationic photoinitiator systems. Used as a critical reactive slip and leveling additive for UV cationic cured topcoat. It effectively improves surface smoothness and slip feel, optimizes coating leveling and minimizes surface defects. It also provides excellent toughening effect and enhances film abrasion resistance and weatherability.

  • High-Performance Coating Systems

Suitable for clear topcoats and functional coatings on metal and various plastic substrates. It improves coating density and mechanical properties, significantly boosts scratch and abrasion resistance, optimizes corrosion resistance and anti-aging performance, and enhances overall coating protection to meet demanding industrial coating requirements.

  • Resin Modification

Serves as a toughening modifier for epoxy and acrylic resins to overcome the brittleness and poor impact resistance of conventional cured resins. It improves the flexibility and structural stability of resin systems, markedly enhances weather resistance and impact performance, and optimizes comprehensive properties of finished resins.

ChangFu® BEX24 alicyclic modified siloxane is the preferred choice for UV cationic curing and delivers stable and reliable long-term protection for various high-performance materials.
